1. What Are Custom Tokens in a Self-Custodial Wallet?
As a self-custodial wallet, our wallet gives you full control over your assets, including the ability to manually add any token using a contract address.
However, this also means you can accidentally (or intentionally by someone else) add scam tokens that look like real ones, but have no actual value, no market, and no exchange support.
2. Why You Might See These Tokens in Your Wallet
If you're seeing tokens like:
-
OBT (OilBit)
- ARTF (Artifinance)
-
Fake USDC
-
Fake USDT
-
Fake EURC
…it’s because they were manually added as custom tokens. They were not issued by the official projects, and our wallet does not support or recognize them as valid.
These tokens usually have no logo, no price.
3. You Cannot Sell or Swap These Tokens
Because these tokens:
-
Have no liquidity
-
Are not listed on any official exchange
These tokens cannot be sold, swapped, or transferred to any legitimate exchange, as they have no real market value or support.
4. Common Scams Involving These Tokens
We’ve seen increasing reports where users:
-
Are contacted or emailed by individuals claiming to be “financial advisors”.
-
These scammers sell tokens like OBT, ARTF, or other unknown custom tokens that have no real market value.
-
To make it look like you've made a profit, they also manually add fake versions of stablecoins like USDT, USDC, or EURC to your wallet.
-
Receive messages from people pretending to be from the “Ethereum Foundation” or other well-known entities, falsely claiming:
-
Their wallet will be locked.
-
Funds are frozen.
-
They must deposit money to “verify” or “unlock” the wallet.
-
These are all scams. No legitimate blockchain project, exchange, or service will contact or email you to sell tokens or unlock your wallet.
6. How to Protect Yourself
-
Only purchase cryptocurrency from trusted, regulated exchanges like directly in the Coin Wallet from our trusted partners.
-
Never trust unsolicited messages, emails, or contact from unknown sources offering token sales or financial advice.
-
Do not send funds to “unlock” your wallet or “unfreeze” tokens. It’s a scam.
-
Never share your 12-word recovery phrase with anyone, not even with wallet support.
7. We Never Contact Users First
As a self-custodial wallet, we:
-
Do not have access to your funds or private keys,
-
Never contact users first via email, messaging apps, or any other platform,
-
Only communicate with you when you contact us, and only via our official support email: support@coin.space
8. What to Do If You See These Tokens
-
You can safely ignore them, as they hold no real value.
-
You can remove the token from your view if needed.
-
If in doubt, contact us through the official channels.
